2010 Christmas Meeting

The traditional December meeting went off like a house on fire on Monday, 13th. Ten or so turned out in the morning to set up the supper room which was done with a minimum of fuss. Many thanks to all those who were able to get there. At the meeting, we had a ballot for both an affiliating member, and a candidate for initiation. Bro Bill then delivered the 1° tracing board lecture for Bro Nathan in his usual flawless manner.

Four prospective members, seven lodge widows, and members' wives and families, all came to the dinner as our guests. At the banquet, the WM presented Christmas hampers to our lodge widows. These were prepared by Noela Gray, to whom many thanks for this effort. The WM also presented Widows' pins to both Sue Dillon and Nani Navasivayam, both of whom lost their husbands during the last 2 months.

Many thanks to Bros Joe and Nathan for their providoring, and to the ladies for setting out the meals. All who helped were greatly appreciated with especial thanks to Bros Neal and Damien who ran the raffle, Bros Kevin, Neil, and Jim for their efforts as stewards, Mrs Michelle Huggins for once again providing beautiful singing, Bro Ian (Santa), and Bro Merv for pulling all the strings of organisation together.

Camp Hill Lodge's Installation

On Saturday 20th November, brethren of the lodge Installed Brother Ross Barry into the Chair of King Solomon in a beautifully conducted ceremony. An unusual feature was that the Worshipful Installing Master was his biological and Masonic brother, W Bro Don Barry. Grand Lodge attended, the Grand Master being represented by RW Bro Norrie Morris, PDGM, who was accompanied by our own RW Bro John Ellsworth, PAGM, and attended by a very good team of Grand Officers.

Camp Hill Performs Installation for Barron Barnett Lodge of Research

Once again, Barron Barnett Lodge of Research requested that Past Masters of Camp Hill form the installing team at their installation. In the past, this duty has been performed by an installing team from Grand Lodge. However, with so many members of Camp Hill Lodge also being members of Barron Barnett Lodge, and the brethren of Barron Barnett being suitably impressed with the standard of work performed by the Camp Hill brethren, it looks like this may just become a new tradition.

Of course, Camp Hill Lodge didn't just supply an installing team, we also supplied a team of Stewards to look after the festive board.

Congratulations to W Bro Don Barry from Camp Hill Lodge on being installed as Worshipful Master of Barron Barnett Lodge for the 2010-2011 year.

Unusual Honour

R W Bro Richard King, Past Junior Grand Warden, was asked by the Grand Master to represent him at Greenup Lodge in Texas for their Installation meeting. The rest of the Grand Lodge team was made up of our Worshipful Master, Wor Bro Don Barry(who kindly agreed to act as Grand DC), and a group of local and interstate Past Grand Officers. As the representative of the MW Grand Master, Richard was asked to present the IPM jewel, two Life Vice President jewels, and cheques totalling $2000 for local charities and the Board of Benevolence.

Lunch at Buffet Garden

The Annual Social Club visit to the Buffet Garden luncheon took place on Sunday the 15th of August. This year we had a record turn out with 42 attending, including our much loved widows and our younger new men out in force. Many thanks to Wor Bro Gordon for all the organising and chauffering.

Picnic at Slaughter Falls

On Sunday the 8th of August, Camp Hill Lodge had a picnic breakfast at J.C. Slaughter Falls, Mt Coot-tha. Many thanks to RW Bro King for getting there early and claiming a nice spot for us. This event is becoming a favourite amongst Camp Hill members. The atmosphere, the scenery, and the central location prove to be a major draw card. Camp Hill members come from all over Brisbane, and this is reflected in our social events - from picnics at Nudgee Beach, Mt Coot-tha, and Victoria Point, to "Music Beneath the Stars" at Ormiston.

Sandgate Volunteer Day

The grounds at the Sandgate aged care facility have an insatiable need for attention. That's why we support it with two volunteer days every year (we are the only lodge that does so). On the 31st of July we attended for our winter day, and cleaned up a huge heap of rubbish left from the general volunteer day the week before. Thanks to everyone who lent a hand.

Picnic at Nudgee Beach

On Sunday 30th May, Camp Hill Lodge held one of its traditional picnic breakfasts at Nudgee Beach. A good attendance, and a very nice venue, although a bit exposed when the wind got up.

Camp Hill Lodge participates in open night

On 28th April, 2010, six lodges united to present an open information night to members of the public interested in freemasonry in Brisbane. The lodges were Camp Hill, Redlands (Host), Mt Pleasant, City of Logan, Southern Queensland and Northgate Remembrance. Redlands Lodge conducted an ANZAC memorial service, charity presentations, and service jewel conferrals as well as providing key-note speaker, MW Bro John Menzies, PGM.

Camp Hill Lodge had a big input into the wide range of preparations necessary to make the night a success. We were very well supported by the Deputy Grand Secretary. Many thanks are given to Redlands Lodge for hosting the evening.

Second Collection For CareFlight for 2010

On Saturday the 17th of April, Camp Hill returned to fire up the Big Gun Butcher's hot plate and roll up their sleeves to raise much needed funds for a worthy community cause. Thanks to those who helped to organise the day and those who came along to help, the lodge managed to raise a further $495 for careflight.

Camp Hill Member now "Past Assistant Grand Master"

RW Bro John Ellsworth, a stalwart of Camp Hill Lodge, has been recognised by the Grand Master for long and distinguished service to Grand Lodge as a Grand Officer, and for the last 9 years, as a Grand Herald. At the March Communication, the office of Past Assistant Grand Master was conferred on him by MW Bro Graeme Ewin, GM. All members join in congratulating Bro John.

Collection For CareFlight

On Saturday the 20th of February, Camp Hill Lodge members once again held a sausage sizzle fundraiser outside Patton's Big Gun Butchers for Careflight. Many thanks to those who were able to make it along, we managed to raise around $520.

Lodge Picnic Breakfast

Camp Hill Lodge organised a picnic/BBQ breakfast at the Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park on the 7th of February. The turn out was only slightly affected by the rain, and those who turned up still had a good time. Lets face it, you haven't lived until you've manned a BBQ with tongs in one hand and an umbrella in the other!

Sandgate Volunteer Day

Saturday the 9th of January saw Camp Hill Lodge members roll up their sleeves for a working bee at the Masonic Aged Care Centre at Sandgate.  It was immediately obvious to everyone just how important it is to the Centre that we do this extra rostered day in January. The heat, the rain, and the lack of volunteers over the holiday period meant the grounds were completely overgrown by the time we got to them. All of our hardwork seemed well worthwhile though, just to see the startling contrast between how it was when we got there, and and how it looked when we left.
